Narayana Health City in Bommasandra, Bengaluru was established with the vision to make high-end quality healthcare, including tertiary care facilities affordable and accessible to all. Founder & Chairman, Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty, is the second largest healthcare provider in the country in terms of operational bed count. Headquartered in Bengaluru, Narayana Health operates a chain of multi-speciality facilities across a network of 24 hospitals and 7 heart centres. However, with the emphasis growing on Modicare, the national health insurance program under Prime Minister Narendra Modi which intends to give basic coverage for the first time to 500 million of India’s poorest, the government has announced reimbursement rates which are lower even than Narayana’s prices. Those rock-bottom payments mean that to thrive under Modicare, Narayana needs to find ways to cut costs further—and then keep cutting- keeping the professional and hygiene standards intact.
